llyn strong

llyn strong has been described as a “jewelry artist with an eye for life.” Working with natural-colored gemstones, precious materials and inspirations around her, she uses her award-winning talent to create timeless works of art that are both distinctive and wearable. Trained as a graphic designer, llyn made her first piece of jewelry in 1972, which spawned a 30-year career as a renowned jewelry artist. She opened her studio in downtown Greenville SC in 1989, moving to its current location in 1992 where she now works and lives in an upstairs renovated loft.
llyn’s dedication to the Greenville community extends beyond her gallery. For the past five years, she has donated a piece of jewelry valued up to $10,000 to the Red Cross Wine Auction, hosting a dinner in her home the night before. She also serves on several boards and committees, including the Children’s Museum of the Upstate and Aid Upstate.
llyn’s artist statement:
“I believe there’s a magic in the human ability to make something that didn’t exist before, and that the act of making deepens our humanity and our understanding of ourselves. The essence of contemporary craft is to pay homage to the materials, techniques and traditions of the past, while exploring new forms and functions. Art, no matter what its medium, should do more than present a beautiful façade. It should speak to us, and inspire us, and compel us.” ~llyn
