Working in Tucson is like being in a very expensive candy store. Here are some images of some of the “candy” in the tower case at James Alger’s booth (#317) at the AGTA Show and of Pat Alger showing exquisite sapphires.

Here in Tucson, during the largest collection of gem and mineral shows in the world, I find a multitude of fascinating and insporational things. I am awed by the amount of creativity that people have and the beauty that the earth provides.
The first photo is me in from of an incredible amethyst geode from Uraguay.
The second photo is of Tahitian pearls from the United States Pearl Company.
The third photo is a Trapiche Emerald slice (which is very rare) from Columbia, South America.
The fourth photo is of Greg Genovese; a cutter of all my beautiful druzy crystals that I use in my angel series.

I’m in Tucson, Arizona for my annual trek to look at and buy gemstones and fossils for my 2012 collection of work. During this three week period, there are miners, cutters, dealers and designers from every continent here. It is quite amazing to be here and to be able to see so many incredible gifts from the earth.

Sydney and I are at Art Palm Beach in West Palm Beach Florida! It is beautiful, 78 degrees and sunny with amazing works of art, jewelry and sculpture by hundreds of artists being represented by over 50 national and international galleries. My work is being represented by Oliver & Espig Gallery out of Santa Barbara, CA. Here are a few of our favorite pieces from the show; an Andy Warhol piece of Marilyn Monroe, a photograph of Angelina Jolie (Sydney’s favorite), a 13.33 carat Parabia Tourmaline from Oliver & Espig’s gallery, and the view from Starr Moore’s condo, that she every so sweetly let us stay in, for the week. Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. We look forward to seeing you soon. ~llyn

Angels mean different things to different people but bring inspiration to all of us. Each “Angel” within my collection is individually named; the first being Alice, after my mother and inspiration for this collection. Pendants and brooches with detachable wings that can be worn as earrings, each Angel is accompanied by an original “Angel” portrait that I’ve painted myself.
I wanted to create a distinct connection between the art and the jewelry. For my first portrait, with great reluctance, I crushed 15 carats of black diamonds to create diamond dust that I sprinkled into the paint. The result was magnificent. Since then, I have been able to find a source of diamond, sapphire, ruby and granite dust that I infuse into each portrait to give it an added touch of inspiration and connection: much like our inspiration and connection to Angels themselves.
One of the many things I love about my life’s calling is creating something beautiful out of the inspirations around me. I have a myriad of inspirations from my mother to my husband and daughter to friends, life, nature, and Gustav Klimt (my favorite artist.) I feel blessed to be able to translate that inspiration into wearable art that my customers can enjoy and treasure for a lifetime.
